"FRENCH MANUSCRIPT ILLUMINATION OF THE LATE MIDDLE AGES"
1999-08-03 until 1999-09-29
Getty Museum
Los Angeles, CA, USA United States of America

The installation of manuscript books, leaves, and cuttings from the Museum's permanent collection focuses on the flowering of the art of illumination in France from about 1375 to 1525. During the period kings, dukes, and church leaders were building libraries of lavishly illuminated manuscripts that brought French illuminators to the center of court life. The Boucicaut Master, Jean Fouquet, Jean Bourdichon, and Simon Marmion, all of whom illuminated manuscripts for powerful patrons, are among the artists represented. August 3 through September 26, 1999.
