The Jerry Gilbreath Celebrity Art Collection
showcases the work of twenty-four celebrities in their
endeavors as visual artists. The collection includes work by
individuals from a wide social and political spectrum
including such noteworthy public figures as Senator Ted
Kennedy and Dwight Eisenhower; novelists Tennessee
Williams and e.e. cummings; and musicians David Bowie
and Donna Summer. Unlike most celebrity collectors who
pursue memorabilia or autographs, Mississippi attorney and
businessman Jerry Gilbreath has chosen to collect art
created by famous people. This exhibition offers an
opportunity for the Museum visitor to observe the work of
celebrities other than that which made them famous and,
illustrates contemporary society's fascination with their
public and private lives.
