Department of States Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs
Almaty, , KZ Kazakhstan

The Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, In partnership with the Andy Warhol Museum Pittsburgh, PA, has organized an exhibition of the artist’s works for a tour of 12 countries in eastern and southern Europe during 2000 and 2001. This is the first time that artworks by a contemporary US artist will be shown in several of these countries. The exhibition is one of a number of special Millennium programs sponsored by the Department.

Andy Warhol: A Retrospective, which opened on January 8 in Almaty, Kazakhstan, has received the support of the President’s Committee for the Arts and Humanities and is designated as an official program of the White House Millennium Council. The 55 artworks are representative of Warhol’s work over a 40-year career and include some of his more memorable images – Marilyn Monroe, Campbell Soup Cans, Mao Tse-Tung – and other artworks that uniquely capture the tenor of his times.
