"Carol Hamoy: Portraits of the Artists as Young Girls"
2000-05-14 until 2000-07-02
Neuberger Museum of Art
Purchase, NY, USA United States of America

This installation by Carol Hamoy exemplifies her ongoing interest in -her-story,- or a recording of women's lives. The work focuses on female artists and their childhood decisions to involve themselves in art. Little girls' bouffant dresses fashioned of paper and hung from the ceiling represent selected individuals.

Each dress bears a photograph of a particular artist at the age of five, reproduced on the bodice. Flags divulging the names of other women artists are interspersed among the dresses. As viewers walk around and among the dainty garments they will experience a sense of memory as well as vision. Curated by Judy Collischan, Ph.D., Neuberger Museum of Art Associate Director for Curatorial Affairs, and funded, in part, by the Friends of the Neuberger Museum of Art.
