"Seasons of Western Pennsylvania: The Photography of Donald M. Robinson"
2000-10-25 until 2001-01-25
Carnegie Museum of Natural History
Pittsburgh, PA, USA

Seasons of Western Pennsylvania: The Photography of Donald M. Robinson features 67 stunning photographs depicting the pristine western Pennsylvania landscape during each season of the year. It will be his third photography exhibit at Carnegie Museum of Natural History. His most recent exhibit, Pole to Pole, was in 1998.

Robinson is well known for his photographs of people, landscapes, and animal life. He has traveled internationally, documenting the essence of exotic locales from Arctic glaciers to African deserts to more domestic places such as Florida marshlands and Pennsylvania woodlands.

Robinson's interest in photography was spurred at an early age. A trip to Mexico in 1950 was the first time he considered photography as a profession. This adventure was the catalyst of a global odyssey where he recorded his journey on film. In the 1970s, he visited South America, Europe and Morocco. In the 1980s, he traveled to Australia and Asia. In 1992 and 1993, he traveled to Africa to photograph the wildlife and people of Kenya and Tanzania. His photographic expeditions included North America, Antarctica and the Arctic in the mid to late 1990s.

Special programming for this exhibit includes a gallery talk on Saturday. October 28 at 10:30 a.m. Join the photographer for a private guided tour and lecture of the exhibit. The cost for the gallery talk is $5 for members and $8 for nonmembers and includes admission to Carnegie Museums of Art and Natural History. Pre-registration is required, call (412) 622-3288

All photographs from the exhibit are part of the permanent collection from the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art, Loretto, PA. In addition, his work is also part of the permanent collections of Carnegie Museum of Natural History; Burpee Museum of Natural History, Rockford,IL; Cleveland Museum of Natural History, Cornell Museum of Art, Del Ray Beach, FL; Western Pennsylvania Conservancy and numerous private collections.
