"eMotion Pictures: An Exhibition of Orthopaedics in Art"

American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons at Herbst International Exhibition Hall
San Francisco, CA, USA United States of America

This exhibition features 143 artists from 11 countries and 33 states. The 173-piece exhibition will include the work of orthopaedic surgeons, patients and children, as well as noted artists Yaacov Agam, the pioneer of the kinetic art movement; Dan Keplinger, writer and subject of the Oscar-winning film short, King Gimp; and Ruth Snyder, award-winning sculptor and painter. All the participants have had an orthopaedic condition touch their lives.

Artwork will include painting, drawing, prints, photography, sculpture, ceramics, textiles, crafts, functional art and mixed media, all reflecting the artists‚ personal emotion, be it hope, freedom, strength, pain, anger, frustration, wellness or independence.

This exhibit aims to create awareness of the impact of musculoskeletal conditions and increase understanding of the specialty of orthopaedics. The exhibition will not only increase public awareness of the societal impact of musculoskeletal injuries and impairments, but also foster understanding and awareness on many other fronts including prevention, disability issues and the patient/physician partnership.

Herbst International Exhibition Hall is located at 385 Moraga Avenue, in the Presidio, San Francisco. Admission is free. (Note: this exhibition hall is not the same as the Herbst Pavilion in Fort Mason.). For more information, call 415-441-3400, ext. 3.
