'The War' comprises fifty pages of etchings from 1923 and early 1924. This work was published by Carl Nierendorf in Berlin (1924) as five portfolios, each with 10 etchings in an edition of 70. Otto Dix mastered the technique of aquatint to depict the gruesome reality of battle, which he himself experienced during the First World War.
