"The Desiring Eye"

Photography holds a unique power of fascination. It speaks directly to us and captures a suggestive moment better than any other medium. Some pictures simply have the ability to burn themselves into our memory, making us remember them years on.

The exhibition THE DESIRING EYE presents art photography’s development from the 1840s to the 1980s. The hanging follows photography’s chronological development, and the photographs have been divided into six sections: early portrait photography, early travel photography, Pictorialism, Atget, Man Ray: the city and Surrealism, New Objectivity and American modernism.
