Gold Coast City Art Gallery is delighted to present Leisureland, an exhibition of photographs by renowned Australian artist, Anne Zahalka. Anne Zahalka’s Leisureland investigates the central places of leisure, sport and entertainment within Australian culture through a series of photographic images taken in real locations.

Focussing on theme parks, entertainment centres, shopping arcades, indoor rock climbing, gyms, aquariums, video game parlours, cinemas and sporting complexes, the photographs reveal the artificial nature of these environments. Nature and the real world are simulated to different degrees, creating a real and unreal experience for the visitor of being elsewhere.

Gold Coast City Art Gallery Manager, John Walsh said “Anne Zahalka’s work is very highly regarded in Australia. She is one of the group of photographers in our country dealing with cultural and social issues. These images are large, enjoyable, accessible and all about us enjoying ourselves.”
