"Accomodating Change: Circle 33 Housing Group"
2002-02-22 until 2002-03-27
Architecture Foundation
London, , UK United Kingdom

This major exhibition is the culmination of The Architecture Foundation's social housing design initiative for Circle 33 Housing Group. It brings together the results of the main professional competition to construct exemplar housing in East London and the student competition that explores innovation. It will be the first opportunity for the public to view the competition entries, presented within the context of new typologies and case study housing of the East End over the past 50 years. The intention will be to generate further debate about the design quality of affordable housing, especially in relation to London’s future development.

The exhibition has been curated by Hilary French, architect and tutor at The Royal College of Art as well as a juror member for both juries to the competition. The exhibition is designed by Kerr/Noble, a young and innovative London based graphic design team who have been assisted by architect Fred Scott.

The exhibition will feature Peter Barber's winning scheme for the professional competition site on Old Ford Rd in Bow. Circle 33 Housing Group and property developer Willmott Dixon have committed to building the scheme on site in early 2003. Models of the winning and short-listed schemes will be filmed with a keyhole camera to give the viewer an experience of each scheme on a human scale.

To launch in conjunction with the gallery exhibition Kerr/Noble have designed and programmed an online exhibition of selected student entries. The site will feature Ema Bonifacic's winning scheme for the student competition and will be made accessible to visitors to the gallery at a computer station in the exhibition space.
