Silvermine Guild Galleries
New Canaan, CT, USA United States of America

Paul Cadmus: 1904-1999, At Home with an American Master, will be on exhibit March 24 through April 21 at Silvermine Guild Galleries of New Canaan, Connecticut.. The first major show and sale of his work since the death of the internationally known Weston artist will include about 50 paintings, drawings and prints, exhibited through the courtesy of DC Moore Gallery of New York and Jon Anderson of Connecticut.

The exhibition will be launched with a Panel Discussion on Cadmus and his work from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. on the 24th, followed by a public reception from 2 to 4p.m. Admission to the panel discussion is $5.

The distinguished panel will include Jon Anderson, companion and model to Paul Cadmus for 35 years; Philip Eliasoph, PhD, Professor of Art History at Fairfield University, friend and biographer of Cadmus; Edward DeLuca, Director of DC Moore Gallery, NY and Cadmus art dealer, and Justin Spring, art critic, author, and observer of the contemporary art scene. Helen Klisser During, Silvermine Gallery Director, will act as moderator.

Curated by Helen Klisser During, the exhibition is a celebration of 90 years of drawing and painting by Cadmus, a prolific artist whose representational style transcended prevailing fashion.

In the book Paul Cadmus, author Lincoln Kirstein writes that Cadmus is A master of classic design, form and technique… he combined controversial, satiric social realism…. executed with the technical virtuosity and anatomical precision of the Renaissance masters that celebrate the beauty of the human body... Philip Eliasoph praised the remarkable vitality of his figures and described Cadmus as a major American artist of the 20th century.

Located at 1037 Silvermine Road in New Canaan, Silvermine Galleries are open Tuesday through Saturday, 11am to 5p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 5p.m. For further information, call (203) 966-9700, extension 20.
