"Mitchell Johnson: New Paintings"
2002-08-03 until 2002-09-03
I. Wolk Gallery
St. Helena, CA, USA United States of America

The I. Wolk Gallery of St. Helena is pleased to present a new solo show of paintings by Mitchell Johnson. This will be Johnson’s third solo show in St. Helena. Johnson’s work has become popular and well known primarily because of the strong response to his figure paintings and his landscapes of southern Tuscany.

This show will feature more than 25 new pieces ranging from painterly figure compositions reminiscent of David Park and the Bay Area Figurative Tradition to bucolic scenes of Italy and California. Johnson’s particular use of color and gesture shows a strong affinity for 20th century French painting, most likely because of the influence of his teachers Paul Resika, Leland Bell, Larry Rivers and Robert DeNiro, Sr.

In addition to being included in over 150 private collections, Johnson’s work is now in the permanent collection of ten US museums.
