"A Temple Reborn: Conserving Preah Khan, Angkor, Cambodia"
2003-09-19 until 2004-01-07
World Monuments Fund Gallery
New York, NY, USA United States of America

The World Monuments Fund (WMF) presents a new exhibition on WMF’s work conserving Preah Khan, one of the most important temples of Angkor. The exhibition also highlights other WMF field projects in Cambodia, including the "Churning of the Sea of Milk" bas relief at Angkor Wat. Photographs and 360? interactive panoramas illustrate work by WMF’s locally based team—including a new generation of Cambodians who are taking the place of conservation professionals killed by the Khmer Rouge.

WMF seeks to leave Preah Khan appearing as it has for centuries—as a partial ruin—but structurally sound and safe for visitation through modern conservation methods and technologies.

The World Monuments Fund is the foremost private international organization dedicated to the conservation of architecture and works of art whose loss or destruction would impoverish humankind. Founded in 1965, World Monuments Fund is a nonprofit organization headquartered in New York City with international affiliates. Through fieldwork, grant-making, educational programs, and advocacy, it brings public and private support together to preserve or rescue monuments worldwide.
