"Peter Cramond, Bryce Brown and Graham Grow Bare Their Figures"
2003-10-20 until 2003-11-27
Axiom Gallery
Tauranga, , NZ New Zealand (Aotearoa)

An exhibition featuring figurative paintings, drawings and sculptures from 3 established Tauranga artists opened at the Axiom Café and Gallery on the 18th of October. The showcase features new work from painter - Graham Crow, painter and sculptor - Peter Cramond, and painter - Bryce Brown. Although the work of each artist differs vastly, viewers will notice an inspirational theme focusing on nature and the human figure running through the show.

After spending time working on complex paintings that focused on surface rather than image, Crow is excited about his return to his artistic roots. His latest mixed media drawings show a distinct return to basics with the human form being the prime motivation. “It’s nice to have a charcoal in my hand again” Says crow. Textured and lively contrasts are the domain of Cramond. ‘My environment and the people in it play a major part in my wo rk’ The flat and the curved, and the round and the sharp, all come together in his diverse work with pleasing effect. Brown focuses on simple moments of New Zealand life and reflects these scenes through his paintings with an earthy, fantasy like quality. ‘I try to capture subtle movement and gestures to evoke positive emotion and capture the viewer’s imagination’.
