"Michael Robert Pollard: Moments of Life Defined Through Sets of Expressive Marks and Tags"
2004-01-26 until 2004-02-19
Ridley Gallery, Sierra College
Rocklin, CA, USA United States of America

Michael Robert Pollard’s work can only be described as wild and expressive. He uses intense color, abstract expression, funk and pop styles in his junk assemblages, murals and paintings to reflect on his life experiences. An emerging artist, Pollard is no stranger to the art scene. He graduated from the San Francisco Art Institute and has been featured in numerous group and solo exhibitions throughout Northern California. He also works as Design Museum Exhibition Coordinator at U. C. Davis.

Pollard states, “As an artist I balance emotion and intense color through improvisation and gesture. Refiguring the human form into an expressive set of marks and tags. My work has been a way to channel my emotion and document life. Last year my father died of cancer, the art changed, it became a way to deal with and balance the unyielding sense of sadness his passing caused. It became like a powerful weapon bringing hope and strength and, at times, comfort. Now my wife and I have a new arrival, our daughter Isabella. How will fatherhood affect my art making? Only time will tell. I only know this, it will document a time; a moment, a place, and it will always reflect who I am.”
