"Paula Braswell and Dionne Simpson: Urban Decay"
2004-04-08 until 2004-04-25
Kabat Wrobel Gallery
Toronto, ON, CA Canada

Kabat Wrobel Gallery presents new works by Paula Braswell and Dionne Simpson, Toronto-based artists whose art discusses the physical and psychological relationship between technology and the environment.  Paula Braswell‚s installations (such as fragmented pregnant shaped torsos and multimedia installations Water and Static) speak to the connection between humans, technology and the natural world and examine the way the human race manipulates nature and impacts life on earth. Paula‚s medium is transparent cast resin combined with digital images, DVD projections and audio.

Paula Braswell holds an MFA from Florida State University. She has been showing her work in many galleries (public and commercial) across the USA and in Canada.

Dionne Simpson's mixed media paintings explore an urbanscape in a contemporary Canadian city. Dionne uses an ancient African technique in which other materials are interwoven into the canvas where the threads have been removed, she then adds wax and further deconstructs the fabric.

Dionne Simpson emigrated from Jamaica to Canada at the age of one. She graduated from The Ontario College of Art and Design in 2000 and spent a year in New York City where she studied fine art at the Cooper Union School for the Advancement of Art and Science.
