Many people may not be are aware of it, but Eindhoven is a very green city indeed. Even so, these urban green areas are endangered by the increasing demand for transparent lay-outs and safety measures. ArchitectuurCentrumEindhoven has organized this exhibition to bring the green areas in Eindhoven to the attention of a wide public.

The exhibition highlights in multifarious ways and from many different angles and disciplines the subject of public spaces and the role of nature in the development of public areas. The participating landscape design firms have filled in four working areas with the projects they are currently developing in Eindhoven.

The spectacular presentation of West 8 for instance takes the spectator on a realistic trip through the new-build of Strijp S.  Norbert van Onna took photographs of monumental trees which are often older than the oldest existing buildings. Photographer Dieuwertje Komen presents an international comparative statement of green space development and the restrictive demands of the population. Veldwerk (Rudy Luijters/Onno Dirker) scrutinized the ‘architecture’ of Eindhoven’s plant tubs and processed the data in an up-to-date survey displayed in the exhibition.

The exhibition will be accompanied by a comprehensive edition of ACEnieuws containing contributions of the participating landscape designers, photographers and Veldwerk as well as a pre-publication of the findings of a historical investigation.
