Indepth Arts News: "Renew All Things Human: Lisa Reinke" 2005-05-07 until 2005-05-30 Haley Farm Gallery Kittery, ME, USA United States of America
Lisa Reinke’s vibrantly colored figurative and portrait oil paintings focus on the interplay of patterns and textures that occur haphazardly on the faces of people or figures in a crowd -- enthralling us to view a face in a new perception.
Lisa Reinke began drawing and painting the human figure in the 1980’s as a young teenager. Her passion earned her a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Colorado State University and a minor in Art History. Because she fancied herself “practical” at the time, she concentrated in Graphic Design, even though it wasn’t her passion. After a few years spent in graphic design for screen printing, she abandoned the art profession in exchange for biotechnology. However, what she loved about her art crystallized during this time and she “pulled a Gauguin” by immersing herself back in her passion for painting.
“Colors and sunlight playing across faces remind me of our connection to the universe and symbolize eternal and fleeting moments simultaneously. I love how we recognize and explore human faces for clues to identity and personality,” states Lisa Reinke.
Reinke weaves patterns into her paintings with unreal color, repetition, lines and shape, reflecting her influences of the Post Impressionist, Fauvists, German Expressionists and Die Brücke artists of the early twentieth century who used bright and unusual color combinations, patterned brushstrokes and flat areas of pure color. Although attracted to and influenced by these styles, Reinke’s artwork reflects her own unique human-centric vision mentally enhanced with color and pattern plays.
