Botero Galleries, Inc. is please to announce a solo exhibition of oil paintings by Joyce Waddell Bailey entitled, Encounter with Nature: Aerated Abstractions, at its Kennedy Studio gallery in Marco Island, FL. The exhibit is open from Feb. 2 to Mar. 2 in the Marco Town Center, featuring 24 oil paintings including a new diptych (60" H X 96" W), Eternidad, that brings together a wide array of "unconscious" influences in a striking and memorable composition.

The concept of "Aerated Abstraction" is elucidated in a brochure for the exhibition:

"Aerated Abstractions," refers to way the artist  attacks her subjects in preparation for painting and the technical rendering of the compositions. The subjects are initially explored with sketches in various media, photographs, posing mirror images, using multiple scales and preserving pieces of the actual subject in her Studio.

The techniques employed in the execution of the paintings (ranging in size from 24" X 24" to 60" X 96"), include: multiple -layered glazing with organic pigments, unusual dry brushing, scrubbing, sanding, taping, subtractive linear delineation and extensive under- and over-painting. These methods, used over heavily primed canvases that give a different dimension to the surfaces--similar to a topographic map.

The result of this constant formal revision and "working of the paint" give the works a quality of "Aerated Abstractions."
