"Blindness: Jacques Dhont"
2006-04-19 until 2006-05-27
US Art Gallery
Stellenbosch, ML, ZA South Africa

The University of Stellenbosch Art Gallery presents "Blindness" – figuratively speaking – is at the centre of this exhibition from April 19 through May 27 2006. Two notions are associated with it - innocence and experience. An element of humour, linked to circus images, is not excluded. Innocence is seen as the ability to close your eyes to the havoc and violence of the outside world and to concentrate on vitality and love, emanating from deep within.

Jacques Dhont is a South African sculptor who creates his work from mostly natural media, including wood, stone, bones and black wattle bark. He lives and works in the Jonkershoek Valley near Stellenbosch.

Dhont was born in 1959 in Zaire. He received a BA(FA) in Painting from the University of Stellenbosch. In 1990 Dhont completed a Diploma in Fine Art in Sculpture from Michaelis School of Fine Art, UCT.
