Indepth Arts News: "stirring - consider the spoon as a starting point..." 2006-08-03 until 2006-08-21 Uxbridge Gallery Auckland, , NZ New Zealand (Aotearoa)
Looking at Clay Bodvin's two pieces (a long-time Waitakere City resident and artist), his submission references a style/genre known as Serial Painting - which exploits the repetition of shapes, grids and patterns of colour.
The 'serial' compositional device of repeating shapes, and an apparent objet-trouvé philosophy, are well used as Bodvin manipulates many different types spoons to create dramatic and lively images. And, in the process, commenting on the spoon’s connection to various social structures and their activities.
Your excitement will lie in experiencing the various and many interpretations of this most common household item, which is familiar to us all. Spoons...we use them almost everyday. But be prepared to see them in a new light.
An evening preview of Stirring was held on August 2, while the exhibition will opened on August 3 and runs through to August 21.
Clay Bodvin has been a Premiere Portfolio Member at absolutearts.com since 2004. View more of Bodvin's work at http://www.absolutearts.com/portfolios/m/mediummixer/
