One Singapore Artist is part of Sculpture Square’s continuing effort to provide a platform for Singaporean artists, in recognition of their artistic endeavours and achievements. For the year 2007, Sculpture Square’s 6th One Singapore Artist exhibition series presents Chua Boon Kee, a local sculpture well known for his distinctive Chinese calligraphy sculptures and large-scale public sculptures in schools, condominiums, gardens and public buildings.

Chua Boon Kee was educated in Applied Sculpture, at the Baharuddin Vocational Institute. After many years of working and managing a hydraulic engineering business, he devoted himself fulltime to his passion for sculpturing in 1997. He has since participated in over 20 group exhibitions including recent ones like “Singapore-Korea Exchange Art Exhibition 2004”, “ Singapore Art Show 2005”, “Milestone Project 2006” and “Asia Pacific Painters & Calligraphers Art Exchange Exhibition 2006”. His calligraphy sculptures are distinctive in Singapore’s sculpture history; he combines the essence of traditional Chinese calligraphy with modern sculpture language. Boon Kee also commits himself actively to teaching art enrichment workshops in schools.
