"Call for Aritsts: FotoGrafia-Baume and Mercier International Award"
2007-03-15 until 2007-04-13
Zoneattive and Baume and Mercier
Rome, , IT Italy

The first FotoGrafia-Baume & Mercier International Award is the result of a partnership between Zoneattive and Baume & Mercier, a further step forward on the investment process in the production and valorisation of original projects in the field of photography that Zoneattive has worked on with the Festival for the past six years. The creation of this award arises from the interest show by the Swiss company for the world of photography and an awareness that this would create a bond with one of the most important European Festivals, sharing concepts addressing proximity, authenticity and creativity. These are key word for this company, and have become its distinguishing mark, values that FotoGrafia has always promoted through its exhibition and in searching for new expressive languages and contents.

The FotoGrafia-Baume & Mercier International Award, which will become a permanent event within the Festival, is addressed with no exclusions at all professional photographers (with no restrictions linked to age or geographical origin) who may participate free of charge presenting by and no later than April 13th 2007 a concept of a new photographic work, to be created with full expressive freedom with images, videos and installations. The idea must be accompanied by a critical paper written by a curator and a series of illustrative photographs of the works presented (drafts, test photos, or reference images).

One the basis of the project presented the FotoGrafia-Baume & Mercier International Award consists in commissioning from the winner the creation of his work and the production of an exhibition in all its stages, all expenses paid, from the preparation to communication and promotion and the production of a special catalogue.

The subject chosen for the first edition of this Award is "A story from my world", a chance to portray though personal experience the small stories of our times, a fragment of global life, a chance to speak of oneself through one's own view of the world; in particular referring to human, social and personal relationships and the profound meaning of exchanges and encounters between human beings. The photographic idea presented must document, reflect, observe and interpret phenomena and aspects of modern life. A highly qualified international jury will be entrusted with the task of assessing the work entered, choosing the artist who will have proved to have excellent potential providing him/her with an opportunity to create a work of art of extremely high profile, both original and innovative in form and contents.

The winner of the first FotoGrafia Baume & Mercier International Award will be announced at an event held during the sixth edition of the Festival (April 6th - June 3rd ) and the exhibition produced will then be presented at the 2008 edition of FotoGrafia, within the group of the main exhibitions.
