"“Human Destiny” - Sculpture by Nakis Tastsioglou"
2008-11-20 until 2009-01-17
Medusa Gallery
Athens, , GR Greece

On Thursday 20 November at 8 in the evening, Maria Dimitriadi opens at the Medusa Art Gallery in Athens, Greece, the exhibition of the latest work of Nakis Tastsioglou under the title “Human Destiny”. Tastsioglou alters the architecture of the main room of the gallery to create separate areas which intercommunicate and host a continuous environment. The work deals with birth, life and death and invites the viewer to walk around these different stages which make up our common human destiny.

Tastsioglou uses his trademark material, Plexiglas, to play with its transparency and with illusions, with the concepts of presence and absence. The course he carves for the viewer is full of surprises and generates allegories and symbolisms to retrieve from oblivion the universal feelings of existential solitude, companionship, security or anxiety and fear of the unknown. The artist uses a fresh look and an industrial aesthetic to treat this age-old subject with humour, deliberately changing the viewer’s mood back and forth.
