Gerard (Jerry) DiFalco earned his bachelor's degree in Visual Art (Studio Major: Sculpture) from Rutgers University;
he also holds a master's degree from Drexel University (1985) in Arts Administration (Concentration in Painting and Curatorial Science). This artist is profiled in several professional publications, including Who's Who in America (2004 to 2009 editions) and Who's Who in the World (2005 to 2009 editions). His awards include a $30,000 individual artistís fellowship from the Pollock-Krasner Foundation (New York City) and an individual artist's grant from The Pennsylvania Council on the Arts (1992). In 2002 he was named as a Resident Artist (printmaking and mixed-media works) within the Philadelphia Museum of Artís award-winning educational ART FUTURES program. He has exhibited his paintings, sculptures, photography, monoprints, etchings, drawings, and installation-art in over 250 solo and juried-group shows in North American and European galleries, including those in Amsterdam, Atlanta, Barcelona, Glasgow, Los Angeles, Madrid, Minneapolis, New York City, Paris, Pittsburgh, Richmond (VA), San Francisco, and Washington, D.C. As a painter, he is best known for his vivid palette and experiments with color-field theory. He also has an established reputation as a conceptual artist through his pioneering installations beginning in 1984 at Nexus Gallery in Philadelphia.
The artistís work turned to spiritual themes in 1990 during a sabbatical in Madrid, Spain. At this time he suffered from Degenerative Disc Disease, a condition that placed him in periods of intense physical suffering. In 2004, he was diagnosed with CRPS (Chronic Regional Pain Syndrome); better know as Chronic Pain Disease. These physical illnesses strengthened his expression of "the sacred" and inspired the development of an even bolder artistic style, technique and vision. However in 2007, Di Falco discovered he had two rare cancers; and he decided to devote his life's work to ěSpiritual Artî during his two-year battle against cancer. He recovered from both cancers, yet still struggles with his remaining two conditions. In his Holy Family exhibit, the artist will show paintings, prints, and mixed-media wall assemblages executed over the past two years, including a STATIONS OF THE CROSS, a fourteen series Lenten meditation tool surrounding Christís Passion.
Gerard's work may be viewed online at absolutearts.com, where he has been a Premiere Artist Member for over six years, at www.absoultearts.com/gerarddifalco.
