"An American Dream : Gregg Jabs"
2009-08-30 until 2010-01-10
Oceanside Museum of Art
Oceanside, CA, USA United States of America

n this dramatic body of mixed media work, ceramic artist Gregg Jabs searches for The American Dream, only to find dysfunction. By questioning the reality of the dream, the myth begins to unravel with surprising results. Jabs uses multiple figures in his installations to present social and personal narratives that explore the delicate balance between collective identity and individual response with wry humor and keen insight. A preview reception introduces the exhibition on Saturday, August 29th from 5:00- 7:00 p.m. OMA’s receptions are known for their party atmosphere complete with wine and scrumptious hors d’oeuvres prepared by OMA’s own Culinary Arts Council. Admission to the reception is $10. Members of the museum enjoy complimentary admission as a benefit of membership. The exhibition will be on view August 30 through January 10, 2010.

There is a very strong conceptual nature in Jabs work that is veiled by the playful circus characters, cowboys, mythical heroes and villains presented in the exhibition. The subject matter reflects his deep concern for how society unconsciously shapes beliefs, behavior and culture ultimately establishing the archetype dream.

Born in San Diego, Gregg Jabs is a San Diego State alumnus with a Masters in Fine Art. An award winning artist his work has been featured in numerous juried and invitational exhibitions nationally and internationally including the American Museum of Ceramic Arts, The California Center for the Arts, and Mendocino Art Center. His work is featured in the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts collection, and has been published in Ceramics Monthly.

Oceanside Museum of Art is located at 704 Pier View Way in downtown Oceanside within walking distance from the Oceanside Transit Center with Amtrak, Sprinter and NCTD Coaster stops. Oceanside, California is half an hour north of San Diego on the coast.
