The Moja Festival 2009 - Juried Art Exhibition opened September 20, 2009 at McKinley Washington Auditorium and runs through October 30, 2009 at the Avery Research Center in Charleston. Selected for the exhibition is work by absolutearts.com Premiere Portfolio Member Hampton Olfus. Open to the public, this event showcases works in all media by South Carolina and regional artists. Three cash awards will be given for first, second and third place. The Juror is Juan Logan.

Also selected to participate in this year's exhibition are Edward Jobst Andrews, Denise Athanas, Bill Blizard, Audrey Layne Combs, Johnnie H. Cowan, Lucy Elliott, Lynda English, Latasha R. Hollins, Lori Starnes Isom, Pat Keown, Kim Lucia, Dorothy Montgomery, Lucretia Pope, Edward Shmunes, Charles Staats, James E. St. Clair, Nancy Van Buren, and Jaclyn Wukela.

After creating art for more than 30 years, this year’s juror, Juan Logan returned to school at the Maryland Institute College of Art, Baltimore, Maryland, where he earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in May 1998. Logan’s work has been featured in over 250 solo and group exhibitions in venues across the country including exhibitions at the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago Cultural Center, North Carolina Museum of Art; Philadelphia Museum of Art; Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art, Winston-Salem, NC; and The World Bank, District of Columbia. His work is included in over 60 corporate and public collections including the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art, the Mint Museum of Art, Charlotte, NC; the Museum of African American Art, Los Angeles; and the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York. Currently, he is an Associate Professor of Studio Art, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
