Art News:

Greetings from Studio 360, Public Radio International’s Peabody Award-winning, nationally syndicated weekly show about creativity, pop culture and the arts, hosted by Kurt Andersen.

We thought you might be interested in this week’s segments about art – here’s a quick description:

At this fall's ArtPrize-- the massive visual arts contest in Grand Rapids, Michigan-- 37,000 members of the public voted for their favorite work. A 19-foot-wide oil painting, "Open Water No. 24," beat out more than 1,200 other entries. Kurt spoke to the winning artist, Ran Ortner, about how the prize has changed his life -- and made him a quarter million dollars richer.

And: British artist Jeremy Deller worries that America has forgotten about the tremendous toll of the Iraq War. With this on his mind, he created a traveling art exhibit -- "It Is What It Is: Conversations About Iraq" -- to bring the message home. The exhibit is now on view now at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago.

Also on this week’s show: A cappella gets its due: the Yale Whiffenpoofs celebrate their centennial and Sonos, the harmonizing indie group, performs live in the studio. And in the only radio interview he's doing for his new book, "Generosity: An Enhancement", the novelist Richard Powers finds his muse in genetic engineering

Please don’t hesitate to be in touch with questions – and your thoughts on the show.

Best,
