Theatre: Trio - a symphony for voice
10 - 15 November
This is a virtuoso performance by Chris Bunworth (Cymbeline & A Black Joy at fortyfivedownstairs; Bed of Roses – ABC television, and numerous roles for M.T.C, La Mama etc.)
In this exploration of the mysterious death of violin virtuoso Karl Munch , Chris Bunworth plays all three roles, the violinist’s agent, his twin brother, and his British lover. Author Dina Ross has written a complex, intriguing exposition of the nature of genius and its unpredictability, especially when centred on musical brilliance.

Exhibition: China Daily
27 October - 21 November
China Daily, curated by Mikala Tai, brings us the work of three contemporary Chinese artists. Cui Qiang brings us the every day life of national pastimes – Tai Chi, and unexpectedly, ballroom dancing. Deng Ying’s naïve, but sophisticated painterly works bring us a reflection of the daily task of city life – crowds waiting at traffic lights, or caught in a summer downfall – a couple about to go swimming, a child with a wolf like dog. Chen Yu, probably the most widely known of the three , is noted for his crowds of Chinese clones, and his work Untitled 2007 is both confronting and humorous.
Exhibition: Luminous Voids
10 to 21 November
Nobby Seymour returns to fortyfivedownstairs with Luminous Voids, with the latest chapter of the exploration of paper, colour, shadows and shape that has preoccupied him for some time.
He has been inspired by the quality of light he experienced growing up on the limestone plains of south eastern South Australia, and by the way the bleached landscape of mid-day was replaced by glowing, luminous colour as evening approached. “Colour swims in the voids” created by paper that he has carved, torn and burned to create these reflective sculptural works.
Nobby Seymour is represented by Geneva Roth Galleries.
Theatre: Progress and Melancholy
18 - 29 November
A
poetic physical theatre work based on Chekov’s The Cherry Orchard.
Director and choreographer Bagryana Popov has blended new performance and dance with a much loved classic theatre text in a powerful and electrifying production. The poignancy of The Cherry Orchard combined with dance and music creates theatre that is emotionally charged, but also humorous and fresh.
