Wild Arts and Crafts at the Museum

Visit the San Bernardino County Museum this Saturday, November 21 and Sunday, November 22 for a wild weekend of arts and crafts in the 27th annual Wildlife Art Festival. Admission and parking are free.

On Saturday from 9am to 5pm and Sunday from 9am to 4pm, the museum’s education division with the support of the Museum Youth Club will organize a variety of hands-on art experiences for children and families using paint and natural materials. Families can create a critter from natural materials, carve a bear, and paint a duck. The Ramona-Country Carvers will also provide hands-on instruction in carving. All family activities are free.

Artist Trudy Wood will teach drawing and pastel classes for children 9 to 15 years old. On Saturday, “Drawing for Kids” classes are at 10am and 3pm. “Introduction to Pastels” classes, which are specifically for kids who are already good at drawing and want to learn pastels techniques, will be at 11:45am and 1:30pm.

On Sunday, “Drawing for Kids” classes will be at 9:45am and 2:45pm, and “Introduction to Pastels” classes will be at 11:15am and 1pm. The art classes are free, but space is limited; free tickets will be available at the front desk at 9am.

Organized by the San Bernardino County Museum Association, the annual Wildlife Art Festival features two dozen prominent artists who exhibit paintings, sculptures, carvings, artisan jewelry, photographs, and limited edition prints in the museum galleries.

The festival also includes the top entries from this year’s Federal Duck Stamp competition in their first West Coast exhibition. Children’s art is represented by classroom projects for the Tom Bennett Children’s Art and Environmental Science Competition, open to students in San Bernardino and Riverside counties. The award ceremony will be on Saturday at 3pm.

The San Bernardino County Museum is at the California Street exit from Interstate 10 in Redlands. Admission during the festival is free, and parking is free. The Exploration Station live animal gallery will be open from 1 to 4pm. For more information, visit www.sbcountymuseum.org or call (909) 307-2669. The museum is accessible to persons with disabilities. If assistive listening devices or other auxiliary aids are needed in order to participate in museum exhibits or programs, requests should be made through Museum Visitor Services at least three business days prior to your visit. Visitor Services’ telephone number is (909) 307-2669 ext. 229 or TDD (909) 792-1462.
