ArtAsiaPacific in Conversation with Subodh Gupta

ArtAsiaPacific is pleased to present acclaimed artist Subodh Gupta and AAP's Managing Editor William Pym in conversation, this weekend in Hong Kong.

Developed in association with Christie's for their Autumn Auction 2009 Lecture Series, the talk "Self-taught Alchemy: Subodh Gupta's Journey Through The Art World" will take place on Saturday, November 28, 2:30 to 3:30 pm at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre.

Subodh Gupta, born 1964 in Bihar, now lives and works in New Delhi. The objects Gupta uses in his works appear as emblems and icons which with confident simplicity codify the complex social and economic, as well as the cultural, situation of present-day India.

His recent solo exhibitions include "Common Man," at Hauser & Wirth, London, 2009, and "Still, Steal, Steel," at Jack Shainman Gallery, New York, 2008. Gupta's works have also been presented in international museum exhibitions such as "Altermodern: Tate Triennial 2009," at Tate Britain, London, 2009, and "Un Certain Etat du Monde? Work from the Pinault Collection," at The Garage Centre for Contemporary Culture in Moscow, 2009. Forthcoming exhibitions include a solo exhibition at Pinchuk Art Centre, Kiev, as well as the group shows the 6th Asia-Pacific Triennial at the Queensland Art Gallery, Brisbane, and "The Empire Strikes Back: Indian Art Today," at the Saatchi Gallery, London, in 2010.

Registration is required to attend the talk.
