From December 1 through December 15, 2009, the Art People Gallery in the Crocker Galleria, San Francisco host "Syncretism" works by Steven Rehfeld and Guy Clement Cohen. Sculptures by Cohen are complimented by Rehfeld's paintings. Steven Rehfeld has been a Premiere Portfolio Artist at absolutearts.com since 2005. Rehfeld comments, "My oil, acrylic, and mixed media paintings, explore the relationship between the progressive cutting edge; between personal and cultural; between the figure and social landscape; between the human and iconography."

He continues, "They create a dialog about how the immaterial 'touches' the material. Foremost, the above relationships are explorations in color contrast forms - negative/positive space. Inaddition, visual kinetic dynamic's energy interact with these relations, and finally, the fusing of abstract art with realism art."

Steven H. Rehfeld, who earned his B.A. in studio art from the University of California, Santa Barbara, is the quintessential California artist, continuing the tradition of Diebenkorn, Frank Lobdell and others as a viable aesthetic enterprise for the postmodern era. Like the Bay Area painters 1950s, Rehfeld seems to draw inspiration from the existential zeitgeist of the Abstract Expressionist, yet like them too, he does not totally reject the figure.
