ST. PETERSBURG WELCOMES SCULPTOR ANGEL ORENSANZ IN THE HERMITAGE MUSEUM
The art exhibition that motivates this unprecedented clamor in the cultural capital of Russia is a retrospective at the Hermitage Museum titled “Angel Orensanz: Time Split Sculpture”. The opening at the Hermitage Museum was preceded by several public appearances of Angel Orensanz.
The first press conference was celebrated in January 7th.
It studied the connections between “Russian Avant-garde and the Art of Angel Orensanz” in the Mitiki-Vhutemas Art Center of Saint Petersburg. MITIKI is a cultural movement initiated during the perestroika that has always gone to the forefront of the Russian arts.
On December 8, there was an open assembly at the University of St. Petersburg together with the Adelante Center. Finally the Hermitage itself was the stage of a symposium celebrated by a group of Russian art experts. This ambitious presentation at the Hermitage opened with a three-day symposium in which sculptor Orensanz and a panel of specialists in contemporary art analyzed the work of this Spanish American artist for the Hermitage Museum Department of Education Projects. The participating scholars will be Sophia Kudriavtseva, PhD, head of the Youth Education Center, Dr. Alexander Borovski, director of the Contemporary Dept. of the State Russian Museum; Dr. Tatiana Borodina, director of the Repin Museum (St. Petersburg), and Nikolai Blagodatov, member of the St. Petersburg Academy of Contemporary Art.
On December 10, Angel Orensanz was granted the Union of Russian Artists Outstanding Arts Award in theMitiki-Vhutemas Art Center of Saint Petersburg.
Angel Orensanz has developed his art practice in Russia since 1987 when he built his installation “Bridges” in Red Square, followed by a performance for the 200 anniversary of the founding of the city of St. Petersburg. Exhibitions followed at the Alexander Pushkin Museum in Moscow, the Rumiantzev Palace in St. Petersburg; the State Russian Museum of St. Petersburg, and now at the Hermitage Museum.
The retrospective exhibition of sculptor Angel Orensanz under the title “Angel Orensanz. Time Split Sculpture” surveys three decades of the work of the Spanish American artist. It occupied three galleries with a large collection of his sculpture work, paintings, video and film work around an underlying concept: a review of twenty defining moments in which the artist defines and gets defined by the eruption of moments of aesthetic transcendence. Dr. Alexander Borovsky identified this ruptures of energy based on the aleatoric theory.
