Dear Art Lovers and Artists, I am happy to send you Dar Al Founoun January/February 2010 schedule. I hope you will find something of your interest. Be aware that some of our courses fill up very quickly. In order to not be disappointed come to register as soon as you have decided what course you would like to join. We do not reserve places! Our philosophy is to teach the basic rules - to demystify art - and to then motivate the artist to break those rules and thereby create their own unique style. We encourage the artists to develop their own creativity and imagination. In addition to bringing a broad scope of visual reference into the instruction we support ongoing dialogue with regards to techniques, artists, art history, and museum exhibits. INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCE OIL PAINTING SUNDAY: 6:30pm 8:30pm evening class Beginning: January 10th, 2010 6 sessions (12 hours) QR 1.200 (all material included, but canvasses) Intermediate/Advance Level This is a painting course for students who already have basic oil painting skills and want to fine-tune knowledge on the technical aspects of oil painting. Study may include composition, form, paint application, color, use of mixed media, or any other technical elements required to improve oil painting skills. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PAINTING ABSTRACTION FROM DRAWING SUNDAYS: 6:30pm 8:30pm evening class Beginning: January 10th, 2010 6 Sessions (12 hours) QR 1.200 (all material included, but canvasses) All levels The course will introduce participants to the world of abstract painting. It will explore the areas between figurative and abstract painting. It explores with paint - color interaction, subjective color, abstract color space and paint handling. Participants will start by looking and responding to drawings and through different media and processes will consider the expressive power of line, tone, space and color. They will construct individual studio set-ups to provide the basis for response, encouraging the transformation from depiction to abstraction through different materials, attitudes and ideas about painting. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ACRYLIC & OIL PAINTING WEDNESDAYS: 9:30am 12:00pm morning class Beginning: January 13th, 2010 6 sessions QR 1.200 (all material included, but canvasses) Intermediate experience required This class is open to students who took Absolute Beginner Course or with equivalent basic knowledge. This is a versatile course in painting aiming to fine-tune knowledge and skills of intermediate and/or advanced artists on the technical aspects of acrylic and oil painting. Study may include composition, form, paint application, color, use of mixed media, or any other technical elements required to improve the work. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PORTRAIT PAINTING WITH MIXED MEDIA TUESDAYS: 10:00am 12:00pm morning class Beginning: January 12th, 2010 6 sessions (12 hours) MONDAYS: 6:30pm 8:30pm evening class Beginning: January 11th, 2010 6 sessions (12 hours) QR 1.200 (all materials included, but canvasses) Adults: intermediate/advanced The course will explore the portraiture using oil, acrylic, and mixed media. The students will learn techniques and rules to create life-like portraits. With step-by-step exercises and guidance, the teacher will give hands-on lessons in using color, light, and glazing techniques to bring richness, depth, and feeling to your portraits. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BEGINNER PAINTING - YOUR FIRST PAINTING CLASS MONDAYS: 10:00am - 12:00pm morning class Beginning: January 11th, 2009 6 Sessions (12 hours) QR 1.200 (all material included) Beginners/very little experience This is a beginning class in painting designed for those with little or no painting training. A series of exercises will train the student to master foundation skills. The exercises include rendering the value scale, color theory, watercolor and acrylic painting techniques (under-painting, glazing and impasto), sighting, and composition. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PAINTING, PRINTING, AND DYEING ON SILK WEDNESDAY: 8:30am 12:30pm morning class January 13th, 20th, and 27th, 2010 3 Sessions (12 hours) QR 1.100 (all materials included) All levels This course introduces basic techniques of silk painting, such as stretching the silk on the frame, the use of gutta (outliner), painting on dry and wet silk, salt/sugar/water effects, and wax techniques. Participants, then, will learn block printing and tie dyeing on silk and will have the opportunity to further develop and experiment the different techniques in order to complete the creative process on silk. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- METAL CLAY JEWELRY WORKSHOP SUNDAYS: 8:30am 12:30pm morning class January 10th, 17th and 24th, 2010 - 3 sessions (12 hours) QR 900 + cost of silver (approximately QR 200) All levels This workshop will allow students to create their own silver jewelers with silver metal clays. Metal Clay is worked in the same way as ceramic clays-rolled, formed, textured and cut, when is allowed to evaporate and the dry piece is fired, the result is a 99.90% fine silver jeweler. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BEGINNER DRAWING SUNDAYS: 10:00am 12:00pm morning class Beginning: January 10st, 2010 6 sessions QR 950 (all materials included) Participants will learn about drawing tools and techniques through theory and experimentation. The course includes: inverted drawing and contour drawing, gesture drawing and modeled drawing, learning to see and reproduce light, shadows, and texture: hatching, crosshatching, scribbling, stippling, and continuous tone techniques, portrait proportion and portrait drawing, basic perspective rules: one point and two points perspective. Class will visit the Museum of Islamic Art and will learn to look and draw selected objects exposed in the galleries. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CARTOON MAKING TUESDAY: 6:30pm 8:30pm evening class Beginning: January 12th, 20010 6 sessions QR 950 Tom & Jerry animations? The Simpsons? Calvin & Hobbes? The Far Side? Gerald Scarfe? Whatever youre interested in, from comic strips to book illustrations, this is a good starting point. Bring along some examples of your favourite cartoons or pictures of people and places youd like to draw and learn how to create your own cartoons. Why not turn your family into a comic strip? Or illustrate the secret life of your pet animals? Choose your own style, using the tools and techniques that you prefer. Learn about drawing People, Faces, Bodies, Animals and scenes, for comical effect, educational material or to illustrate stories. Were not doing animation at this stage, but maybe next time
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PRINT MAKING TUESDAYS: 9:00am 11:00am morning class Beginning: January 12th, 2010 6 sessions QR 1.000 (all materials included) This course offers a practical and contextual introduction to printmaking. It explores the creative possibilities of linoleum, woodcut and screen printing onto fabric and paper using multiple and one-off images. The aim of the course is to gain an insight into this rewarding branch of art and to produce original postcard, T-shirt, etc with the different printing techniques taught. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SCULPTURE WITH PAPER MACHE' SATURDAYS: 10:30am 12:30pm morning class Beginning: January 16th, 2010 6 sessions QR 850 This course allows you to exercise your imagination and develop your, perhaps previously unknown, sculptural skills. Drawing inspiration from works by artists such as Nikki de Saint Phalle you will have the opportunity to construct beautiful, innovative and fun sculptural forms. There are no limits to expressive sculptural forms that can be created with paper machι and you will be surprised by the professional results you will be able to achieve. This is also a chance for you to explore the qualities of an amazingly versatile medium. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BEGINNER CERAMIC: HAND BUILD TECHNIQUES THURSDAYS: 10:00am 12:00pm morning class Beginning: January 14th, 2010 6 + 1 sessions SUNDAYS: 7:00pm 9:00pm evening class Beginning: January 10th, 2010 6 + 1 sessions QR 750 Cost of fired final ceramic pieces will be charged extra at the end of the course. The course focuses on theory and experimentation of the three basic clay hand-building techniques: pinching, slab, and coiling. Participants create three objects each with one of the three techniques. They will then plan and create a clay object by applying one of the three techniques or a combination of them. They will have the possibility to glaze or paint their objects. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCE CERAMIC MONDAYS: 9:00am 12:00pm morning class Class can be join any moment - 6 + 1 sessions SUNDAYS: 6:00pm 9:00pm evening class Beginning: January 10th, 2010 6 + 1 sessions QR 750 - Cost of fired final ceramic pieces will be charged extra at the end of the course. This is a course for students who already have familiarity with clay hand-build techniques and want to continue to improve their skills while creating always more sophisticated clay objects under the supervision of a teacher. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- OPEN STUDIO THURSDAYS: 9:00am 12:00pm TUESDAYS: 6:00pm 9:00pm All enrolled students (but ceramic students) will have the possibility to work in the studio during these times. This is an opportunity to practice learned technique, experiment, and finished up class work. A teacher will be available to help and supervise the work. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CHILDREN COURSES .................................................................................................. CERAMIC SUNDAYS: 4:30pm 6:00pm Beginning: January 10th, 2010 6 sessions QR 600 (all materials included) Children: age 8 and older Children will learn and experiment with the three basic clay hand-building techniques: pinching, slab, and coiling. They will create objects with each of the three techniques. They will have then the opportunity to paint their ceramic objects. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DRAWING MONDAYS: 4:00pm 5:30pm Beginning: January 11th, 2010 6 sessions (2 sessions will take place at the Museum of Islamic Art) QR 600 (all materials included) Children: age 6 and older Children will learn to look and reproduce on paper what they see by using the 5 basic elements of shape: dots, ovals, straight lines, curves lines, and angle line. They will learn to draw abstract designs, animals, and objects. Two sessions will take place at the Museum of Islamic Art, where children will learn to look and draw selected objects exposed in the museum.
