The Sherrie Gallery in Columbus, Ohio presents works by Leah Wong in an exhibition entitled "In Between". The exhibition opened January 17 and remains on view until February 28, 2010. Wong comments,"My work presents an allegory of human thought and society. I portray a landscape of the mind and a perspective on life". Wong continues, "Having grown up in northeast China where the traditional popular paper-cut suffused my imagination, I coat colors onto paper, cut thousands of imaginative, abstract-representational creatures. I conjure narratives—spontaneous, playful, and animated—from experience, observations, memories, and dreams. Then I apply multiple layers of my paper cutout figures onto canvas or board with a gesso ground and apply acrylic paint. Gestural and dimensional paint marks and a vivid palette energize the surface and create a sense of relief."
