Light Drawings

The February exhibition of the Rotunda Gallery examines both digital and
analogue photographic techniques. Light Drawings, by Katrina Jennifer
Bedford, explores the human body.

Light Drawings was born out of passion and fear; a passion for analogue
photography and a fear that this once-dominant medium is on the brink of
extinction. The exhibition features a series of photographic prints that
explores the body as an intimate, yet abstracted landscape made up of
compositions that were originally created in a darkroom. The works are a
hybrid of the photogram/photograph, and are constructed from casts made
from Bedford's own skin.
"The resulting pictures suggest a topography that is reminiscent of
constellations visible in the night sky," says the artist.

Light Drawings pushes the form and function of analog photography by
using techniques that are atypical of the silver gelatin medium.

Katrina Jennifer Bedford holds an Honours BA combined in Multimedia and
Visual Art from McMaster University, and also studied Applied
Photography at Sheridan College. She is a freelance photographer who
works as the Audience Development Coordinator at Cambridge Galleries.
She is a volunteer on the Board of Directors for Cambridge Sculpture
Garden, and is an active member of the Marketing Committee for
Contemporary Art Forum Kitchener + Area (CAFK+A). Her photographs have
been shown in Canada and the United States, and her photo-documentation
has been published in Azure online, Border Crossings, Canadian Art
online, C Magazine and in several exhibition catalogues.
