Opening Reception September 2 | Exhibition through October

SAN FRANCISCO,
CALIFORNIA - 17 August 2010 (for immediate release): MICAĖLA GALLERY presents the work of three
talented artists; Bella Feldman, Nancy Otto, and Monika Steiner.
The gallery offers a brief survey of the
remarkable career of Bella Feldman.
Since the early 70's, Feldman made
extraordinary objects that continue to draw the viewer's attention by their
appearance - their mass, material, and balance. The presence of her work
immediately elicits a physical response. Her sculptures are beautiful, while
they contain elements of threat and of irony, they are playful and provocative.
They are what critic Harold Rosenberg aptly called "anxious objects."
Nancy Otto offers an intimate
installation of sculpture and sound that presents the viewer with a contemporary
window of her personal reality. Enthralled by her soft voice and pretty colors,
we feel, at first, like welcomed friends, then voyeurs, and then friends again.
Her use of glass and choices of color and form exploit structural boundaries,
generating strength and quiet tension for her fragile work, providing a
captivating structure for her ideas.
The rich oil
paintings of Monika Steiner investigate subtle
relationships between perception and material reality. Her paintings are
hypnotically meditative by virtue of her use of color, shape, and multiple
layers. Using ideas of surface and dissolving shapes, she creates a metaphor for
the cycle of appearances arising from, then, returning to a state of pure
potential.
You are cordially invited to meet the artists at the
opening reception on Thursday, September 2 from 5 to 7.30 pm.
