Five images that will feature in a
collaborative
photographic installation in response to Grayson Perry's Walthamstow
Tapestry have been released. (See
Below)
The Walthamstow Tapestry
(after Grayson Perry) is a 12 metre site-specific installation by
Image 17, a group of East London
based
artists and photographers reflecting life in the London Borough of
Waltham
Forest, one of London's outlying Olympic boroughs. The
exhibition,
in an unused office space above a supermarket, features all new work
including
vividly coloured postcard views, dog walkers, proud homeowners, lost
pets,
chicken shops and people named Claire.
Using an innovative approach to a group exhibition, each artist's work
is interspersed with each other's, spread out
and
displayed as part of a single group installation over 12 metres in length. The
work operates
on
multiple levels creating connections picture by picture, developing
series
within series, ultimately creating a single large collective visual journey.
By working in collaboration with each other the artists
are
challenging the way they work and the nature of ownership.
The
exhibition
will run from 3rd - 12th September, 12pm - 7pm
weekdays,
Sat 10am -6pm, Sun 12am -5pm and will be held at 1st Floor,
1-8
Tower Mews, Selbourne Road, Walthamstow, London E17 7JU and is part of the
2010
E17 Arts Trail, one of London's largest Art Trails.
This is
the
second time members of Image17 have worked together. In 2009 the
group
documented local social and leisure activities. They meet monthly with the
aim
of extending their practice and developing interesting connections.
Image17 is Claire Byrne, Udall
Evans,
Martin Godfrey, Dan Green, Katherine Green, Paul Greenleaf, Jo Sealy,
Paula
Smith, Nicola Tree and Paul Tucker, joined this year by Gareth Davies
and
Robert Moye.

Editor's
notes:
- Turner
Prize Winner, Grayson Perry, first displayed his tapestry in 2009.
It provides a journey through
twentieth
century consumerism and depicts the seven ages of man in the process.
The
15m x 3m work combines many of Perry's influences from the
elaborate
imagery of early 20th-century Sumatran batik fabrics to William Morris
-
Walthamstow's most famous resident.

E17 Art Trail is an
annual
event which provides the framework
for Waltham Forest's artists and makers
to
exhibit and promote their work and art practice.
Utilising every possible space as
a
venue, during the Trail you will find art not only in
the galleries and the museums,
but
also homes, gardens, shops, cafés, bars and restaurants, windows,
