"Spirit Circle"
1999-11-04 until 2000-01-21
The Art Gallery, Broward Community College South Campus
Pembroke Pines, FL, USA United States of America

Artist and author Kyra Belan will open her first exhibition of her digital images at The Art Gallery on November 4th, 1999 through January 2000. This turn of the millennium solo exhibition marks the beginning of a new phase in the life of the artist who has been involved with the New Genre Arts for the last two decades. Using computer technology as her artistic expression is not new in this artists life. She created her first computer generated image in 1978. However, her previous body of work consists of site specific installations, earth art and performance art. Using a variety of digital imaging skills, Belan employs computer technology to experiment with this new art form.

Dr. Belan holds a B.F.A. and an M.F.A. in Fine Arts and a doctorate in Art History and Higher Education. She is deeply moved by Americas natural beauty and is inspired by the Native American myths and the mythologies of the world. By juxtaposing her images of nature against her interpretations of symbols and ar che types of worlds cultures Belan hopes to convey the messages of hope, spirituality and interconnectedness between people and nature. She also pays tribute to the newly discovered Miami Circle by using circle centered compositions. She feels that a circle evokes peaceful spirituality and equality of all people, and had used it in her art for many years. Kyra Belan exhibits and lectures nationally and in ter na tion al ly. She has authored a book about mythologies of the world titled Earth, Spirit and Gender: Visual Language for the New Reality, Forbes, 96 & 98, and a newly published novel, a spiritual adventure titled Lucid Future, Aegina Press, Fall 99. A professor at Broward Community College, Belan is a recent Otto M. Burkhardt Endowed Chair recipient.
