Dennis Jones's Premiere Artist Portfolio
Welcome to Dennis Jones's Portfolio. These paintings demark a transition between between excess and restraint, between instinct and deliberation, between chaos and structure; I’m intrigued by the interstitial spaces of such polarities and how each interacts with the other. The paintings are psychologically architectonic, as they suggest excavated emotive topographies that are foundations for polychromatic rooms to enter. Viewed in this sense, they are also cinematic, as they imply a frame to frame movement through such spaces, with rolling credits, from some ambiguous, unhinged source. Image and text diverge then converge, decay then reassemble; the literal and abstract, specific and expansive, analog and digital, physical and intellectual, unconsciousness and consciousness dissolve then reintegrate from moment to passing moment in a series of endless random sequences.
I believe that Painting is about desire, which exists in an inherent magnetism between an image and object. Painting is a synthesis of the imagination and reality, the unknowable and the known, and in the mind of the viewer, these separate trajectories intersect thereby closing a gap, and thought congeals.
