Helen Closs's Premiere Artist Portfolio
Welcome to Helen Closs's Portfolio.
Sweeping paint, color, texture, layers, spontaneity, and chance work together to create an emotional/figurative/spiritual landscape of a moment in time in my work.
Unexpected nuances and details draw the viewer in to explore more deeply and prompt the imagination. Titles are usually kept vague so each person can make their own interpretation.
The new work is acrylic and sand on masonite or canvas, created mostly with a palette knife and letting some areas just ”be”. I work in the alla prima painting method to be true to the moment, however I often paint over a previous layer.
Abstract Expressionism best describes my work. Painters who have inspired me are Joan Mitchell, Jackson Pollock, Chaim Soutine, and Vincent van Gogh.
The intent of the work is that it be interesting, meaningful, original, and that viewers will be able to identify and relate to them.
