Artwork Description:

The full title is, RELICS OF THE OLD PHYSICS for the post technological age. This indoor installation was created using over 150 stretched canvases on wood that had been primed with gesso, textured with acrylic modeling paste, and then painted with gold Liquitex brand acrylic. Each canvas measures eight inches high by six inches wide, and the depths vary depending upon what is sewn onto each canvas. A hanging space between each canvas allows the work to breath. This work, which I began in the year 1996, has become a lifelong work in progress. The individual canvases, which I entitle RELICS, are sold individually to finance the project. Therefore, the installed works, or RELICS, are never the same with each work. This installation has been exhibited three times. The work had its 1997 debut, pictured here, at The DaVinci Gallery in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Next, The DCCA or Delaware Center For Contemporary Art in Wilmington displayed part of the work in 2001. The most recent showing occurred in Grand Rapids, Michigan at The Institute of Contemporary Art in 2007. I currently have over 200 Relics to exhibit for the next showing, and 129 have already sold from the first three exhibition times. The objects attached and sewn onto the RELICS include sculptures that I cast, found objects, and objects from nature. All animal parts. . . including bones, skulls, teeth, and shells. . . are found in nature, and no animal is killed or hurt for me to obtain these parts. The depth can vary from one half inch to thirteen inches off the canvas. Currently I have over 200 Relics for my next showing. This conceptual installation deals with manifold, yet interconnected, subjects including Sacred Geometry, Numerology, Nature, Mysticism, Spiritual Narrations, Ecological Issues, Quantum Physics, Philosophy, Art History, Politics, and Comparative. My RELICS PIECE is also intended to function as an altar in a House of Worship, Meditation Center, Retreat Center, Home Chapel, or in a Cathedral side chapel. This is crafted fine art designed and created to function as LITURGICAL ART for the Post Technological Age. To reiterate, each canvas measures 8 inches 10.5 cm high by 6 inches 15.25 cm wide. The overall size of this particular, installation was 120 inches high 305 cm by 216 inches wide 548.5 cm x 14 inches deep.
