Artists Describing Their Art:

Nancy Bechtol - Artists explore and give the world a view of their personal heightened awareness. I visualize and think with keen beliefs and insights. Reflection of human and societal concerns which cross emotional boundaries-- communicating that which is unspoken. My traditional art foundations of drawing, painting and printmaking, evolved into video, digital photography and experimental media. I use digital photography and imaging to envision the concepts originating from the creative pulse. An individual artist explores and gives the world a view of their personal heightened awareness. C. A. Hoffman - For me, my artwork is very personal. It reflects a lot about how I am feeling at any given time and place. I feel that art has to be on this personal level to completely capture how the artist is feeling daily, or trying to convey a certain thought or emotion at that particular moment. We all, at one time or another try to express our thoughts or ideas, whether it is to others or just to ourselves, by words, actions, ideas or pictures. If we are sucessful in this attempt, I think it shows through in our everyday work or art. I believe that one is either born to create art naturally or by learning. For me, I feel that I was born with this wonderful gift, and I try to improve upon it every day. In my photos and art, I hope to show how everyday objects and nature can capture our imaginations and feelings. Sometimes I work with an image to improve it, inhance it, or just to fuel the imagination. I truly hope this shows in all of my art. ...

Claudia Nierman - Some words about my work: The images I produce are deliberately enigmatic and multi-layered. They invite the viewer to engage in the process of storytelling whereby dreaming and living are woven together as a tapestry. I find the sources for my work in the urban environment: window displays, torn posters, graffiti, broken architecture. In short, the remains of man. These objects and situations are eventually transformed by rain, sun, reflections, and shadows, as well as additions made by the passerby. Shaped by the forces of chance, these ephemeral visions are captured on film (and now also in bits and bites) and used as raw material that merge one into another forming a new identity. The result? On one hand, a strange amalgam of my preoccupation with time and memory, and on the other, the way in which the deliberate manipulaton through photographic images can give us insight into our personal and collective struggles. Technical information: I usually work in three different formats: 25 cm x 30 cm and 32 cm x 45 cm printed on cibachrome paper; and a large format of 57 cm x 80 cm, digitilizing the final image and printing it on canvas. (Since this latter ...

Bruno Paolo Benedetti - Bruno Paolo Benedetti, born in the year 1954, began to take pictures, studying perspective and photo techniques, in the year 1968. Since the begin he was concerned with black and white photography, observing the contrast s of the nature, the lights and interpreting the reality around him. When he was 25 he began to work in the dark room, enhancing his technique using filters, high contrast films for making his first pictures of surreal and abstract photography. At the same time he began journeying around Europe and the world: India, Nepal, Bhutan, Southern America, South Africa, Egypt, Comoros islands are some of the most visited places. The study of the religions, the mysticism in all of them, inspired his artistic production, especially his surreal photography, where cultural and religious archetypes are depicted. The abstract non objective photography is the other branch of his work. It starts from the observation of the nature in all its manifestations: water, lights, colors, shores, flowers, ice All the colors are not elaborated and strictly natural, highlighting hidden particulars and changing the images into fluid shapes, where each watcher can see new images created by his emotions and fantasy. In both styles of pictures the ...

Bernhard Luettmer - The project is to create the image with a short composition as I wanted at times I took in here. Timing and movements of the camera or the machinery are important resources. Photography is listen to the world as we hear a beloved piece of music. For example: I see a tree just in vegetation, the wind gentle caresses the new leaves, the light shines and you hear all this on the skin. Now take a picture with the knowledge that this concentration and on the negative is something of the feeling....

Sandra Maarhuis - For more information about Sandra Maarhuis and to see a online show of all her artworks visit the website: www.sandra-maarhuis.exto.org Info Paintings and Photocollages: Sandra Maarhuis was born in 1972, in Rotterdam. In 2001 she graduated from the Art Academy of Kampen. It was there that she mastered her painting skills. After graduating, the Dutch Art Institute offered her a place in their Master of Fine Arts course. During this two year course she was taught by Peter Struyken and Emo Verkerk, and she obtained her Master's Degree in 2003. Apart from commissioned works and the sale of her work, her main ambition is to further develop her free artwork. A recurring theme in her visual art is the beauty that is concealed in everyday life. In awe of detail, situation or people. And this admiration is the start of each of her paintings. By painting in a figurative-bordering on realistic-way, she is able to portray the subject as recognizable as possible. The final goal is to let the painting exceed the picture. To be captivated first before realising it's a "picture in a frame". Sandra has a new working space ( atelier) ...

Luba Sokolovsky - Luba was born in Lithuania but immigrated to Israel in 1980. She has a degree in medicine, but worked in the hi-tech field for about 20 years as well as performed in concerts, singing and playing the guitar. She has been painting for more than half her life while still working, but in the last five years she has devoted her time exclusively to art. She is self-taught except for a course in computer graphics which she took in university, and a period of time she spent taking classes at an Academy in Braine L'Alleud. Luba usually paints in oil on canvas, as well as with acrylic, charcoal, gouache, pastel and pencil. Lately she has been creating many photocompositions and collages. Her art depicts her feelings, experiences, ideas from literature, music, poetry, nature and life. In her photocompositions she explores the hidden inner beauty....

Mark Struzynski - Mark Struzynski Certain Relationships develop in our minds, between quite dissimilar objects, ideas, smells, etc.. These relationships are abstract, often unconscious, and unclear. Mark Struzynski was born in Chicago, IL. in 1957. He became immersed in art while living in Copenhagen, being befriended by students, graduates and Professors at The Art Academy of Copenhagen. He attended lectures and read every art book in the Art Library, as his 'art education'. At the time, that he was living in, Copenhagen he was involved with the Photographic process, how photographs are thought of as being direct transfers of reality, but actually remove or miss a certain amount of detail and the effect of these 'mistakes'. These musings led him to working with Photo-emulsion canvass, developing photos of drawings, which were derived from both found and self-taken photographs onto the Photo-Canvass9see web-site www.markart.org for examples). Upon returning to his hometown Chicago, he returned to painting working with different layers both physically (textured paint and images on top of each other) and mentally, (the different layers of dreams). These paintings seem to develop into a series, which was named Untitled Box Series (see web-site www.markart.org). ...
