| Your Personal Biography |
Thomas Forman was born in New York City in 1951. Growing up on Long Island, he painted and sketched from a very early age. In 1973, he graduated from Pratt Institute in New York, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.
Living and working in Manhattan as an art director at major 'Madison Avenue' advertising agencies for nearly 20 years, Tom created print and TV ad campaigns for such clients as Revlon, Johnson & Johnson, Citibank, Bayer, etc. He went on to operate his own advertising/graphic design agency, the Forman Group, for 11 years, catering largely to such major apparel companies as The Gap, Banana Republic, The Children's Place and others.
It was during this latter period that Tom was able to put aside more time to devote to his first love, painting. Working primarily in watercolor and acrylic, his subject matter varies widely...from realism to the abstract.
When it comes to Tom's watercolors, his major influences are the works of Edward Hopper and the scenery that surrounds his home in beautiful Bucks County, Pennsylvania.
His abstract work, strangely enough, is strongly influenced by Vincent Van Gogh. In recent months, in a series of abstract acrylic paintings entitled, 'Currents', he has explored capturing the fluidity and movement of Van Gogh's sky in ' Starry Night'. In his own unique style, including a scratchboard technique, his work suggests sky, water, wind, fire and abstractions left to the viewer's imagination.
Most recently, Tom exhibited at the Phillips' Mill 78th Annual Fall Exhibition in New Hope, Pennsylvania in 2007 and in 2008 at the Riverrun Gallery in Lambertville, New Jersey.
Thomas Forman's work is available for sale, for gallery shows as well as on a commissioned basis.
