Statement :: Xenia Madison
Xenia, pronounced SUN-KNEE-UH, which is Greek for "hospitality", is a self taught artist, born and raised in San Francisco, CA. She paints about life and the inner spirit, expressed through abstracted ‘scapes' of various physical, environmental, and non physical (imagined) forms. In nearly 4 years as an artist, Xenia has already garnered both national exposure and fine art gallery representation.
"Painting has become a healing practice for me. The artmaking process itself, plus my attempts at expressing abstract concepts, challenge me to confront myself, to provoke self awareness, and to positively feed my soul. Further, the focus involved keeps me grounded, less anxious, and more present. Here, I can experience moments of non judgment, compassion, and the reassuring sense that I'm connected with all things. Conceptually, while my artwork has a spiritual bent, visually I'm motivated to express this mostly in non representational ways. Rarely absolute about composition when starting, I do begin each piece with a sense of color palette and an idea about what I want to convey.
