Artist Statement:
I am interested in the angelic, diabolic, dynamic curvaceous forms and hues of nature foreboding intersection with contemporary culture. Thick pitter patter blobs of paint dominate the flat surface. Underneath are underpaintings of words of emotions as well as snapshots of scenery or abstract collaborations with my nephew. The calculated bleeding and blending of paint caused by chemical reactions demonstrate the serendipity of life – sometimes successful and sometimes hardly noticeable. Visually the paintings confront the viewer on an aesthetic subjective level regarding style. Synthesizing techniques used by the Fauves, Pointillists and Abstract Expressionists, I enlarge the dots, turn color and form into camouflage, create, destroy and let the will of the paint and mineral spirits dictate the transitions. ...

Allison Compton, a Virginia native, is a social, spontaneous, intellectual artist who likes to laugh and think of dreams as reality. You'll catch her jotting/sketching an idea or reading something that will inspires her next scheme. She earned a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Previously, she studied art history at Virginia Commonwealth University and took classes at the Virginia Museum Studio School. She earned a BA from Mary Baldwin College. These degrees and experiences enable her to tackle and execute conceptual projects such as tapping into the spirit of the Wild West. She currently lives in western Montana and will move to Richmond, VA this Fall to teach painting classes. Wonder what will inspire her color-specific art? |
