Welcome to Al Yoakum's Portfolio. A little about myself:
The medias I focus on are Fused Glass and Enamel on Copper in a three dimensional format. The styles are primitive and abstract in an organic and Bronze Age design. I am partially colorblind but the bold and vibrant colors in glass help overcome this. By the use of glass I hope to give a slice of hope and happiness to others. And maybe, warm their soul.
The fusing of glass technique I use is a two-step process. First, different shapes and colors of glass are placed together in one to three layers to form a geometric shape. The glass is then placed in a kiln and heated between 1300 to 1600 degrees F and cooled over twenty-four hours. The glass has now become one contiguous piece. The second step consists of prepping the piece and placing it over a mold. The mold can be of a single or multi use purpose. The glass and mold are placed in a kiln and heated between 1200 to 1600 degrees F and cooled over twenty-four hours.
