Artist Statement:
For centuries, stained glass
has been a highly skilled
trade embraced by some of the
best craftsman and artists of
the age. Art and architecture
worked together to create
works of incredible beauty
and inspiration.
During the latter part of the
20th century, however, that
sense of artistry and grandeur
seemed to fade. Cheaply
produced glass and materials
were introduced and hobbyists
began offeing their service as
professionals. The overall
public opinion of stained
glass became connected
exclusively to the craft
show, flea market and home
improvement store. Today, many
artists that work in more
traditional mediums view
stained glass as simply a
craft and not as a legitimate
art form such as painting,
drawing or sculpture.
It is my hope and goal to see
a return to that past
excellence when artists who
worked in stained glass were
respected and admired for
their skill, sense of design
and composition, attention to
detail and overall artistic
integrity. When art, even if
created simply for the sake of
beauty alone, was recognized
as a form of expression with a
message all itís own that
uplifted the soul and inspired
change.
