Artist Statement:
It was during the last
semester of college at CCAC
that I became obsessed with
the wet plate collodion
process. My friend Nick
brought a 4x5 ambrotype into
the photo lab one day. He made
it with the help of a
photographer in LA.
Immediately I was fascinated
by it and had to learn what
was involved in making them.
After some research we
contacted Mark Osterman for a
copy of his ‘THE WET-PLATE
PROCESS, A WORKING GUIDE,
2002’ publication and spent
the rest of the semester
acquiring all the necessary
equipment and chemicals. The
first attempts were fairly
successful; maybe not image
wise but a lot was learned.

Since then I have been
continuing to make ambrotypes
and improve my skills. I have
overcome most of the technical
difficulties relating to the
process which has allowed me
to work freely with my
concepts and ideas.
