Reviews for Amie Vanderford:

The Loft Gallery presents
"femme photographie"
Featuring photography by Jen L. Molander & Amie Vanderford-Pfaff

The recently opened Loft Gallery presents intimate photography by two rising Bay Area artists: Jen L. Molander and Amie Vanderford-Pfaff, June 1-July 3, 2002. The artists’ striking black and white images of the female body reveal the universal strength of womanhood, motherhood and life. Through Molander’s and Vanderford-Pfaff’s photography, ordinary women are captured in an extraordinary light. The spirit, personality, and inner beauty of each subject are fully expressed. Molander’s and Vanderford-Pfaff’s work celebrates the goddess in every woman.

In her photos, Jen L. Molander strives to tell the truth of what she sees, to distill the every day into its essence of form. She believes that each person and every moment is a unique expression of life and undeniable beauty. Beyond words, beyond thought, is a visual language that cannot be articulated but is experienced and understood nonetheless. Visual imagery speaks to us only to the degree that there is something in us that it recognizes--something both intimate and private, yet at the same time universal.

Amie Vanderford-Pfaff tells a story with each photo. She provides a peephole into the souls of those photographed – exploring the innate dimensions, mysteries and contradictions that make us human.

Vanderford-Pfaff’s work has been displayed at the Women in Photography International Tea Time Exhibit in San Juan Capistrano, CA, photo l.a. 2002, Photo Impact Santa Monica, and the Globe Gallery in Roswell, NM. Her photograph “Set Break” received 2nd place in the Globe’s “Reddish” photography competition. Her B&W website (www.amie.org/photo/) was included in the November /December 2000 Top Ten Photo Web Sites at Black & White World and reviewed by Popular Photography editor Mason Resnick.

In May 2002, The Loft Gallery opened its doors to the public. The space itself is an elegant ballroom in one of the few pre-1906 Victorian buildings still standing today in the Lower Haight. High-ceilings, vast open areas and incredible light make it a premier venue to curate artwork. The gallery’s mission is to showcase work from the Bay Area’s finest emerging painters and photographers. Rather than focusing on one genre or school of art, The Loft Gallery searches for artists who exhibit raw creativity, emotion and originality in their work. The gallery rotates exhibits monthly, consistently holding opening receptions on the first saturday of the month, from 6-10pm.

The Loft Gallery is a non-traditional art venue – sharing its space with the yoga and dance community. Half the day, the space functions as a gallery. The other half, yoga and dance classes fill the room. The Loft has found this unique relationship to be mutually beneficial. Emerging artists are given high exposure to the community, and art-interested, yoga patrons benefit from having an easily accessible gallery.
